Description

The summer house, located approximately 40 meters south of Orchard House, is a two-storey structure clad in rough timber logs, likely built in the mid-19th century.

It features unfinished timber logs beneath a scalloped shingle roof and is octagonal in shape, with a roughly rectangular stair tower attached to the east side. The summer house has an octagonal roof topped with a finial. The stair tower rises in two stages to the first floor. The structural timbers of the outer frame extend from concrete footings to the full height of the building. The walls consist of geometric panels made of unfinished logs arranged horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. There is some metal strapping and replacement timber at the base of the structure.

On the ground floor, gothic arched entrances are located on the north and south sides, with a single arched window between the south entrance and the stair tower. Each side of the first floor features gothic arched windows, except for those above the entryways, which are square. All windows are fitted with clear acrylic glazing. The stair tower includes square windows on both the ground and first floors, along with an arched store entrance on its south side.

Inside, the ground floor has an open undercroft with bench seating along the west walls, featuring curved, natural timber arm rests. The ceiling is supported by a central post with bracing struts and is decorated with logs. A timber staircase leads to the first floor, accessed through an arched entrance with a rustic timber door. The first-floor room displays visible rafters radiating from the apex of the ceiling and is clad with horizontal timber panels.
