II
National School [now used by Girl Guides] and masters house. Dated 1840. Painted brick. Slate roofs with brick modillion eaves, hipped and with pedimental gables. Brick axial and lateral stacks. PLAN: Schoolroom in the centre range, another smaller schoolroom in the east crosswing and the masters house in the west crosswing. Later outshuts at the rear. Italianate style. EXTERIOR: Single-storey school, the centre three bays with three 3-light windows with round-headed lights and multi-pane cast-iron casements with margin-panes and segmentally arched doorway on left with glazed plank door; slightly advanced crosswing on right with pedimental gable, stringcourses and 3-light window with segmentally headed lights and similar multi-pane metal casements. Masters house in 2-storey crosswing on left with stringcourse at first floor level and segmentally arched windows with hoodmoulds and 2-light casements with small panes; similar windows on 2-bay west [right] return with panel at centre of first floor with small armorial device and inscription NATIONAL SCHOOL Built AD 1840; another segmentally arched casement in outshut on left. Outshuts with lean-to roofs at rear. INTERIOR: Schoolrooms ceiled, but braced collar-trusses partly exposed. Interior of masters house not inspected.
