Description

The Downs House is a farmhouse built in the mid-18th century. It features squared, coursed limestone with coped gables and an old tile roof, complete with ashlar end stacks. The building has two storeys plus an attic and a three-window range, arranged in a two-unit plan. At the center, there is a doorway with a stone lintel, which contains a 20th-century glazed door set within a 20th-century greenhouse. On both floors, there are 20th-century three-light casement windows, with the left window on the first floor set in a lowered opening. The ground floor windows have wood lintels, while the first floor windows have stone lintels. The house also features three 20th-century gabled dormers and 20th-century windows in the gable end. At the rear, there is an early 19th-century stone range. Inside, the house has chamfered spine beams with ogee stops and a large open fireplace with a timber bressumer.
