Description

Monwode Lea Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse located on Nuneaton Road in Monwode Lea. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond, resting on a squared red sandstone plinth with a splayed upper edge. The stone dressings, which are now painted, adorn the quoins, front door, and windows. The original shallow pitch roof was covered with slate but is now topped with local blue/black tiles. The eaves feature wood coving, and there are flush end stacks with rebuilt upper courses. The farmhouse is designed in an L-plan, with modern infill in the angle, and includes a cellar, two storeys, and an attic.

The symmetrical three-bay facade is framed by rusticated quoins. The original hung sash windows have been replaced by early 20th-century casements in their original openings, featuring flat stone arches with raised keyblocks and stone sills. The attic storey has smaller casements, particularly in the central bay. The central doorway is set in a round-headed arch with a stone doorcase painted white, topped with a broken pediment on plain pilasters. The door itself is a six-panel design with raised and fielded panels, accompanied by a fanlight with radial glazing bars.

At the rear, the range features segmental arches made of header brickwork for the door and window openings. Inside, there is a closed string, closed-well staircase with stick balusters, along with two inglenook hearths and one parlour hearth that has a marble surround from around 1840, supported by console brackets.
