Description
Monwode House Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse that was extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with fine mortar joints on the front wall, and features stone dressings that are now painted. The building has a low pitch, hipped roof covered in slate. It has a double pile plan and stands three storeys tall, including a smaller attic storey. The symmetrical facade is framed by a bracketed eaves cornice and rusticated quoins, with the eaves cornice returning to the sides.
The front has a range of three 19th-century recessed hung sash windows with vertical glazing bars, set within gauged original brick arches that have raised stone keyblocks. The central doorway features a doorcase with a broken pediment supported by Roman Doric engaged wooden columns. The doorway itself is in a round-headed arch and includes a four flush-panelled door with intersecting glazing bars in the fanlight. The rear extension, added in the early 19th century, is also made of red brick, has a slate roof, and features a brick dentil eaves cornice.
