Description

Over Whitacre House is a small country house built around 1840. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, sitting on a coursed sandstone plinth with stone dressings. The house features a hipped slate roof with two internal stacks that have brick entablatures. The main block is accompanied by a service range and a courtyard at the north-east end.

The building has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical facade framed by a moulded main cornice and rusticated quoins, which are now painted. The facade includes a three-window range of recessed hung sashes, each with a single central glazing bar and stone sills, set under flat arches with raised stone key blocks. A central porch, accessed by five stone steps, is made of red brick with similar stone dressings and features a broken pediment supported by paired console brackets. The porch has a round-headed outer arch with a moulded surround and key block, leading to a doorway with a square head, rusticated surround, and arched key block. Flanking the porch are two larger hung sashes, while the attic storey has three smaller hung sashes.

The service wing to the north is also made of red brick and has a moulded brick cornice. It consists of two storeys and a single storey around the yard. The property was sold in 1837, suggesting that a significant building programme may have taken place at that time.
