Description

No. 1 High Street is a house dating from the early 18th century, with a mid to late 19th-century addition that connects it to a late 17th-century building. The structure is made of red brick and features plain tile roofs and brick stacks. It stands three storeys tall, with the second floor having reduced proportions. The exterior includes moulded storey strings, an eaves cornice, and rusticated quoins that extend into a parapet with moulded coping.

The façade has five bays, featuring glazing bar sash windows with exposed sash boxes and flat rusticated lintels that have raised keys with a leaf motif. A set of three stone steps leads to a six-panel door framed by a rusticated doorcase, which includes a lintel similar to those above the windows, along with superimposed pilasters and a scrolled pediment.

To the left, there is a single-storey, two-bay extension that has large four-pane sash windows and a pyramidal slate roof. This extension connects the main house to the late 17th-century building, which is also made of red brick and has a hipped plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack. This building is two storeys high, featuring a first-floor band and a moulded brick eaves cornice, with one bay of glazing bar casements. The ground floor window has a segmental head, and to its right is a plain door, also with a segmental head.

The left-hand return is irregular with two bays; the left bay projects forward under a cat-slide roofline, indicating it is a later addition. There is a gabled attic dormer on the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
