Description
No. 37 High Street is a house dating from the early 16th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill panels and some areas of brick rebuilding, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack. Originally a hall house, it now stands at two storeys with a mid-height rail, large rectangular panels above, and large arched braces at the bay divisions and ends. Below the middle rail, much of the timber frame has been replaced with brick. The front elevation is slightly irregular with three windows, featuring early 19th century glazing bar casements. To the left of centre is an early 19th century six-panel door, where the upper two panels are glazed and it has a bracketed pediment. The right gable end has been rebuilt in brick, while the left gable retains similar framing to the front, along with a queen strut roof truss and clasped purlins above the collar. Inside, the house has a two-bay hall with a central tie beam truss and a spere truss indicating the line of the cross-passage. The north bay contains a solar above service rooms.
