Description
Cole Bridge is a road bridge located on Coleshill High Street, dating from the mid-16th century. The bridge was widened towards the west around 1700, and this side has undergone extensive repairs in the 19th and 20th centuries. The east side features 16th-century dressed sandstone blocks and red brick from around 1700. It has six semi-circular arches with two chamfered orders spanning the River Cole, along with a plain parapet and V-shaped cutwaters topped with square refuges at parapet level. One of the cutwaters was rebuilt in brick in the 18th century. To the right, there are three additional semi-circular arches with cutwaters that support a causeway leading to the bridge. The west side has segmental brick arches with raised keystones and brick dripstones, along with squat sandstone cutwaters. It also features a sandstone parapet band and a plain parapet from the late 20th century, as well as three segmental brick causeway arches to the left.
