Description
No. 148 High Street is a 15th-century house located in Coleshill. It features roughcast timber framing and a plain tile roof, with a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack. The building has a single-ended hall-house design with a single-bay hall and a northern cross-wing, creating a T-shaped plan. It is one storey with an attic.
The hall range on the left side includes a ground floor window with four panes of fixed light and a central attic dormer casement with a hipped roof. There is a plank door to the right. The gabled cross-wing on the right has a jettied attic storey supported by three curved brackets, a three-light casement window on the ground floor, and a two-light casement window in the attic.
Although the interior was not inspected, the Victoria County History notes that it contains wide flat ceiling joists and curved windbraces in the cross-wing, an inserted 16th-century ceiling with a stop-chamfered beam in the hall range, a wide fireplace in the south wall, and a triangular-headed doorway between the hall and the cross-wing.
