Description

The cowhouse, located approximately 25 yards west of Town Head Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and has a later addition. It is constructed of ashlar stone featuring herringbone tooling and has a plain tile roof. The building consists of a 5-bay range aligned east-west, with a single bay extension to the west.

On the north side, the structure is one storey with an attic, with the main range on the left and the extension on the right. The main range has buttresses at the bay divisions, a door to the right of center, a casement window to the left of center, a square window opening to the left with a boarded door, and square loft openings on both sides. The extension features a chamfered eaves band and coped verges. The left gable has a central loft door with pigeon holes above, while the right gable includes two ground floor doors and a central loft door.

On the south side, the main range is on the right and the extension on the left. The main range again has buttresses at the bay divisions, with doors to the right, left, and center, and three windows, one to the left of each door, along with a square loft opening to the right. The extension has a large inserted cart entrance to the right and a rectangular loft opening to the left.
