Description

Milepost located in front of Hall Yard Buildings: The Young Generation and Beautiful Homes on the south side of High Street in Upper Tean. This milepost dates from the early 19th century and is made of painted cast iron. It has a triangular plan with an inclined head set approximately 500 millimeters above the ground. The head is inscribed with "CHECKLEY/PARISH," and there is a segmental headed headboard behind it that reads "LONDON" in an arch, with "146/LIVERPOOL/65" below. The lower side has additional inscriptions, with "NEWCASTLE/11/MILES" on the left and "UTTOXETER/7/MILES" on the right.
