Description
Knowles Cottages (Nos 1 and 2) and Stonebench Cottage are a modest range of estate cottages located on Lichfield Road in Sandon. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and are arranged in an L-shape. The left-hand cottage, known as Stonebench Cottage, is an early 19th-century building made of red brick. It is two storeys high and features three casement windows, a doorway with a ledged door and a gabled hood, and a slate roof. The gabled end facing the road has been altered. The rear wing, which comprises the two cottages known as Knowles Cottages, is likely from the late 18th century and is roughcast. This section also has two storeys, three casement windows with gables, and two plain doorways with wooden gabled porches, along with plain eaves and a tiled roof. The buildings are included for their group value.
