Description
Nos. 372 and 374 are a pair of cottages built around 1830. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a slate roof. The cottages are arranged in a long, shallow range with a lean-to at the back.
The exterior consists of two storeys, each with two windows. All windows are pointed lights with timber casements set in raised plat surrounds. Each house has a centrally located pointed opening with a panelled part-glazed door, which is set in deep reveals and surrounded by the plat. The gables are coped and each has a stack, with an additional ridge stack located at the centre. The returns of the building are plain.
Although the interior has not been inspected, the cottages are notable for their design, which combines a standard Neo-classical house front with picturesque Gothick elements.
The cottages are elevated above the road, supported by a stone retaining wall that spans the full width of the site. This wall features iron railings divided into seven bays with standards. At the left end, there is a flight of steps that leads to a quarter-landing, providing access to the front and side of the property.
