Description
Stafford College's Tenterbanks Building is a college constructed around 1937, with the interior finishing completed in 1946. It features red-brown brick with stone dressings and a parapeted roof, designed in a late classical style. The building has a rusticated ground floor, rusticated pilaster panels at intervals, a moulded panel between floors, and a deep cornice with a blocking course.
The exterior consists of three storeys, with the central section and the ends of the main facade projecting forward. It has a 19-window range with 10/10 and 8/8 sash windows, some of which have curved stone heads along the ground floor. The central doorway is flanked by attached columns and has a recessed section above. There is a flat crowning feature made up of low recessing sections.
To the right, a corner feature connects to a similar facade on Victoria Road, which has a curved ground floor with a balustrade and a flat wall above, featuring tall arched openings with tripartite windows on both floors. The crowning feature includes urns. Historically, the building served as an American army hospital during the war before its completion.
