Description
The Staffordshire County War Memorial, built around 1920, is located on a square terrace and features flanking walls and gates. Constructed from ashlar and bronze, the tall memorial supports bronze figures. The plinth includes a bronze plaque with lettering above an inscription cut into stone, and there is another bronze plaque commemorating the Second World War on the right side. The base of the memorial has an imbricated torus, and roundels with cap badges are present on all faces, topped with a bronze Stafford knot over the inscription. At the top, there are figures of a winged female and a horse on a rock. The terrace is surrounded by low walls that extend to the sides, with canted sections flanking enriched wrought-iron paired gates. The canted sections are inscribed with the names of battles from the First World War. This impressive memorial is situated at the west end of Victoria Park.
