Description
This barn, located approximately 50 yards north of Mere Hall, dates from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a corrugated iron roof. The barn has a T-shaped plan, with the main section aligned east-west facing north and a rear wing aligned north-south.
On the north front, the barn is one storey high, with a two-storey west bay that has a first-floor band. It consists of nine bays, with the right-hand bay being blind. There are two cart entrances with segmental arches, and the rest of the facade has tall louvred openings with segmental heads.
The rear of the barn is also one storey, but the left-hand bay is two storeys high and includes a first-floor band. This side has a layout of 4:1:4 bays, featuring a central gabled rear wing with two blocked segmental arched doors. The right-hand door has an inserted door, while the left has a square boarded opening. There is a central tall loft opening with a segmental head. The right-hand section includes a cart entrance to the left of centre with a segmental head, while the rest has tall blind segmental arches. The left-hand section has an east entrance to the right of centre and blind arches, all with segmental heads.
Inside, the barn features king-post roof trusses that support two pairs of purlins. This barn is part of a symmetrical arrangement of contemporary farm buildings that were associated with a now-demolished house.
