Description

ENVILLE C.P. MERE LANE (north side) SO 88 NW 8/47 Barn approx. 50 yards north of Mere Hall GV II Barn. Mid-C18. Red brick; corrugated iron roof. T-shaped plan; principal range aligned east-west facing north,rear wing aligned north-south. North front. One storey, west bay 2 storeys with first floor band; 9 bays, right hand bay blind, 2 cart entrances with segmental arches otherwise tall louvred openings with segmental heads. Rear. One storey, left hand bay 2 storeys with first floor band. 4:1:4 bays; central gabled rear wing with 2 blocked segmental arched doors, the right hand one has an inserted door, the left hand one a square boarded opening, central tall loft opening with segmental head. Right hand section has cart entrance to left of centre with segmental head, otherwise tall blind segmental arches. The left hand section has a east entrance to right of centre and blind arches all with segmental heads. Interior. King-post roof trusses supporting 2 pairs of purlins. The barn is part of a symmetrical arrangement of contemporary farm-buildings which were associated with a now demolished house. V.C.H. Vol.XX (1984), p. 105.
