Description

No 2 Main Road is a house that originally incorporated a shop, dating from the 17th century, with some parts rebuilt in the 18th century and extended and refurbished in the 19th century. The building is timber framed with brick infill panels, along with brick rebuilding and extension, and features a plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack. It has a two-cell range that is aligned east-west and faces east, with an extension to the west. The structure is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, small rectangular panels, and a collar and tie beam roof truss that has vertical struts above and below the collar. The 19th-century barge boards are decorated with carvings.

The entrance on the right features a 19th-century boarded door with a rectangular overlight. To the left is a 19th-century shop window that has a bracketed sill and hood, along with first-floor and attic windows that have raised and moulded surrounds. Each return of the building shows one bay of exposed timber framing, while the rear bay appears to have been rebuilt in brick and includes casements with small leaded panes.

Inside, there are 19th-century shop fittings that include a range of small drawers with Tudor-arched alcoves above that contain shelving.
