Description

Lime View is an estate cottage dating to 1880. It was designed by Robert Griffiths of Stafford for Thomas Fletcher Twemlow. The cottage is constructed of red brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings, featuring steep pitched gabled and hipped plain tile roofs. The side wall and ridge stacks have prominent coped flues set diagonally. The architectural details include a plinth, flush brick quoins, a first-floor band, and dentillated eaves. Most windows are original wooden casements and sashes, and the doors are close boarded. The cottage has a T-plan layout and two storeys with two bays.

The front elevation features a projecting gable on the left, containing a three-light cross casement window on the ground floor and a two-light casement above. A datestone inscribed "TFT 1880" is set into the gable. A projecting hipped entrance bay is on the right return, with a hooded porch flanked by a plain sash window. Above the porch is a three-light strip window with brick mullions. The rear elevation has a projecting gable on the left with a three-light casement and a two-light casement above. A setback bay to the right contains a door with overlight, and above that a three-light strip window with brick mullions.

The interior retains the original layout and features plain rooms, largely with original four-panel and close boarded doors. A 19th-century marble fireplace is present on the ground floor, while the first floor has 19th-century iron fireplaces. There is a winder stair and landing with stick balusters.

Outside, a blue brick plinth is located to the right, in front of the entrance bay. A square brick gate pier topped with a pyramidal stone cap anchors a shared gateway with Abrahams’ House.
