Description
Clock House and Mews House are former coach house and stable block buildings, constructed in 1870 with later 20th-century alterations. Designed by Robert Griffiths of Stafford, they feature red and blue chequered brickwork, hipped slate roofs, and brick stacks. The buildings have an L-shaped plan, with the former stable range (Mews House) aligned north-south facing east, and the former coach house range (Clock House) attached to the north-east, aligned east-west facing south. Both structures are two storeys tall. The stable block is on the left, while the coach house range is on the right. At the junction of the two is a square clock tower with a spired belfry, which includes a carriage wing below. Most windows are from the 20th century, with ground floor windows set in 19th-century openings that have segmental heads. There are four segmental-headed coach house doors on the right side of the coach house range. Clock House and Mews House were originally part of Betley Court and are noted for their group value.
