Description

No. 3 Post Office Road is a house that likely dates back to the 17th century but was remodeled around the mid-19th century and extended later in the 19th century. The building has a timber frame that is faced in painted brick and features a slate roof with gabled ends, along with a tall brick gable-end stack. The layout consists of a two-room plan, with the larger room on the right (south) heated by the gable-end stack, while the smaller room on the left (north) is unheated.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical two-window west front. On the first floor, there are two small three-light windows with wrought-iron casements and glazing bars. The ground floor features two large late 20th-century bow windows and a 20th-century glazed door at the center. At the rear, the roof extends down as a catslide over the outshut.

Inside, the right-hand room has a chamfered axial beam with cyma stops, unchamfered joists, and a large fireplace with a chamfered bressumer that also has cyma stops and later brick jambs. The smaller left room has exposed unchamfered joists and visible timber framing on the north end wall, which includes curved tension braces and a chamfered beam above. The truss above features exposed queen-posts and a collar, and the wall framing at the rear by the stairs is partly exposed.
