Description

Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse that mainly dates from the 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It features red brick that replaces earlier timber framing, plain tile roofs, a central brick stack, and integral end stacks. The building was formerly L-shaped in plan, with the main range oriented east-west and facing north. There is an early 19th-century extension to the north and a rear wing to the west that runs north-south, along with an early 20th-century southern extension. The wings to the west are aligned east-west, with a rear extension running north-south, and the eastern section also aligned north-south.

The central range has one storey and an attic, flanked by a right-hand wing that has two storeys and a dentilled eaves band, and a left-hand wing that also has two storeys and an attic with a half-hipped roof. The facade features a 1:3:1 window arrangement with casements that have segmental heads, two eyebrow dormers on the central range, and a large tripartite glazing bar sash window on the right-hand ground floor. There is a six-panelled door to the right of the central range, topped with a bracketed pediment hood. The west elevation includes an early 19th-century Tuscan portico, while the south elevation has several glazing bar sash windows.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, a large open fireplace with a timber bresummer, an 18th-century newel staircase, and an early 18th-century dog-leg staircase featuring a column on vase balusters and a straight handrail. The roof trusses are also from the 18th century. Home Farmhouse is situated in a prominent location at the head of the village green and is noted for its group value.
