Description
Essington House is a house that originated in the 17th century, was largely rebuilt in the 18th century, and altered in the mid-19th century. It features red brick that has almost completely replaced the earlier timber framing, with a plain tile roof and brick ridge stacks. Originally, it was a 3-bay timber-framed range aligned east-west and facing south, which was extended by a single bay to the west in the 18th century when the outer walls were rebuilt in brick. The house is two storeys high and has three windows, with the left-hand bay being blank. It has corner pilaster strips and casements with segmental heads. The central entrance features a half-glazed door with a bracketed hood. A vertical joint at the level of the first-floor window sills indicates that the eaves level has been raised since the initial rebuilding in brick. Inside, there are timber-framed transverse walls, including the former western end wall, one corner post, a large open fireplace, and chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
