Description
No. 113 and No. 115 on Main Street are a pair of houses that also incorporate a shop. They date from the 17th century and were remodeled in the early 18th century. The core of the buildings is timber framed, while the outer walls have been rebuilt in brick and painted. They have a plain tile roof with a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack. The buildings have a roughly L-shaped plan, with the main range aligned east-west facing south and a shop wing to the west aligned north-south.
They are one storey and have an attic, featuring a storey band and an original timber wall plate. The left side has a projecting gabled wing with 1:2 bays, while the main range is to the right. The windows are glazing bar casements, with segmental heads on the ground floor. There are two gabled attic dormers on the main range, and the late 19th-century shop front is located on the wing, with a 20th-century attic window above it. There are also two doors to the main range, positioned left of centre. Inside, the partition wall between the two houses reveals exposed timber framing, and one of the infill panels in No. 113 is inscribed with the date 1610.
