Description
The cowhouse and loose boxes on the east side of the farmyard at Manor Farm were originally built in the 17th century and rebuilt in the mid-19th century. The structure is made of red brick and features a Staffordshire blue tile roof. It is a single storey building with seven bays, including a feeding passage in a partial outshut to the west.
On the east side, which faces the farmyard, there are casements with blue-brick sills that alternate with segmentally-arched and rebated doorways. These doorways have boarded doors with strap hinges, although one of the doorways has been altered. The right return of the building has an oak corner post on the left and infilled studwork beneath an exposed principal-rafter truss.
Inside, there are seven principal-rafter trusses, most of which have diagonal struts, while two feature boarded infill. The rafters and purlins date back to the 17th century and include some straight wind braces. The east end of the trusses is supported by a 10-bay arcade of round brick arches, which provide access to the stalls from the feeding passage in the outshut. This building is included for its group value.
