Description

Mill End House is a house dating from the 16th century, situated on the west side of Mill End Lane in Alrewas. The house is timber-framed with brick infill, and some brick rebuilding, with a thatched roof featuring a scalloped ridge and a brick ridge stack. It has an L-shaped plan, comprising a two-bay hall range aligned north-south, originally a lobby-entry plan, and a two-bay crosswing aligned east-west.

The west elevation displays one storey and an attic. It features two square panels to the eaves with straight braces, and a gabled crosswing to the left with a plastered front and a gabled, half-glazed porch. The hall range is to the right, with a 1:2 window arrangement and 20th-century casement windows. A blocked door is visible on the hall range to the right. The east elevation shows the crosswing to the right with a plastered front, and the hall range to the left, featuring three ground-floor windows and an eyebrow dormer to the right. The crosswing roof has one pair of purlins and a ridge piece.

Inside, the ceilings feature chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The central truss of the crosswing is a cruck truss, while the other cross frames are of post and truss construction, thought to be contemporary. Curved wind braces are also present.
