Description
Barleycorn Cottage is a house that has been divided into two properties. It dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the 18th century, with later additions. The building features red brick that replaces much of the earlier timber framing, a plain tile roof, and both a brick integral end stack and a ridge stack. Originally, it was a three-framed bay baffle-entry house aligned east-west and facing south. An extension wing was added to the south side of the west bay in the early 19th century. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with dentilled eaves. The main range is on the right, while a projecting gabled wing is on the left, featuring two sets of two windows, which are casements with segmental heads. The main range has a central door, and the wing has a blocked door to the left along with a central integral end stack. Inside, the central bay contains a large open fireplace and an ovolo-moulded spine beam, with exposed wall framing that has three square panels up to the eaves level.
