Description
No. 3 Market Street is a shop and office building dating from around 1780. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a parapeted roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Georgian style, standing three storeys high with a three-window range. The ground floor is painted and includes an ashlar platt band above it, with a plain parapet and coped gables.
To the right, there is an elliptical-headed carriage entrance next to a contemporary shop front that has an entrance and flanking bow windows. This front is adorned with panelled pilaster strips and an entablature that breaks forward on consoles above the entrance. The entrance features an overlight with glazing bars arranged in an oval cobweb pattern above a half-glazed door that leads up steps. The small-paned windows add to the character of the building.
The upper windows are fitted with sills and have rubbed brick flat arches, with 12-pane sashes on the first floor and 9-pane sashes on the second floor. A wrought-iron sign bracket is positioned over the entrance. Additionally, there is an entrance located in the return of the carriageway.
