Description

16 and 18 Conduit Street are two houses that have been converted into a shop and office. They date from the mid to late 18th century and are built of brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a tile roof. The buildings are designed in the Georgian style and stand two storeys high with a two-window range. The left half of the structure projects slightly forward and features a hipped roof.

On the left side, there is a plain timber parapet, while the right side has a cornice and a high stone-coped brick parapet. The late 19th-century shop front on the left includes glazed tiles on the pilaster strips, with bulls' heads supporting a cornice that features rich iron cresting. The shop front has 20th-century glazing and entrances to the right.

The upper windows on the left are segmental-headed and have tripartite sashes, with the second-floor window featuring a sill. On the right, the upper windows have wedge lintels with keys, with a 16-pane sash on the first floor and an 8-pane sash on the second floor.
