Description
The Staffordshire Bookshop (part) is a house that dates back to around 1650, with an 18th-century facade. It features stuccoed brick over an internal timber frame and has a tiled roof with a brick cross-axial stack. The building has a double-depth plan and consists of two storeys with an attic, displaying a single-window range. It has a top frieze and cornice. The entrance, located to the right, includes a doorcase with a bracketed cornice and a half-glazed door. The windows have sills; the ground floor window features fixed plate glass with margin lights, while the first-floor window is a 16-pane sash. The attic includes a hipped dormer window with a small-paned casement. At the rear, there is a gabled wing with brick platt bands and segmental-headed windows with pegged casements, along with a 19th-century gabled cross-wing. Inside, the property has chamfered beams, a staircase with turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail. The first floor reveals exposed jowls of wall posts, and there is a winding stair leading to the attic, which has exposed principals.
