Description
12 and 14 Dam Street are two houses, one of which is now a café. They date from the mid-16th century, with a late 18th-century facade. The buildings are constructed of brick with an internal timber frame and feature a tile roof with brick end stacks. They are two storeys high and have a two-window range. A top brick cornice with modillions adds detail to the structure. The entrances are segmental-headed and lead to the center, featuring 20th-century doors. No. 12 has a large 20th-century inset bow window with an ashlar sill and retains the segmental head of the original window above. The first floor has a window with a brick sill and a 6-pane horned sash. No. 14 has smaller casement windows. The interior of No. 14 reveals a timber-framed structure with chamfered beams and flat joists, braces on the right return wall of the first floor, a stick baluster staircase, and a door with strap hinges.
