Description
No. 23 Dam Street is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is built of brick with a tile roof and features a brick stack. The house has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a two-window range. A brick platt band runs above the ground floor, and there is a top modillioned brick cornice.
The end entrances are flanked by stop-chamfered pilasters with decorative heads, and there is a continuous timber frieze and drip mould above. The left entrance features a segmental-pointed head above the drip mould and a plank door, while the right entrance has a narrow overlight above a half-glazed door. To the left of the centre, there is a window with a 12-paned sash and an ashlar sill. On the first floor, the windows are segmental-headed with 3-light transomed pegged casements; the left window has leaded glazing, and the right window has small-paned glazing. There are also two gabled dormers with casements. A stack is located at the front of the ridge. At the rear, there is a gabled wing with a lean-to outshut, segmental-headed casements, and a dormer.
