Description
9 and 11 Dam Street are two houses, now used as an office and shop, dating from around 1700 with later alterations. The buildings are finished in stucco with some timber framing and have a tile roof with a brick stack. They are two storeys high with an attic and feature a two-window range. A top cornice runs along the building. The entrances at either end have doorcases with pilasters, friezes, and cornices; the left entrance has a reeded frieze, while the right has reeded pilasters, both leading to glazed doors. The windows include casements, with No. 9 featuring 20th-century casements and No. 11 having a shop window on the ground floor with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, along with small-paned glazing and an opening pane. The first floor of No. 11 has a small-paned casement, and there are two gabled dormers. A stack is located at the front of the ridge. Inside, there is exposed timber framing and chamfered beams; No. 9 includes a large fireplace with a bressumer and a winding staircase.
