Description

This building, numbers 16 and 17 Market Square, dates to around 1840. It is a large structure built of red brick with stucco dressings. The building is three stories high and has four bays. The first and second floors are emphasized by coupled brick pilasters which support an entablature with a heavy cornice and blocking course. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and have panelled lintels with moulded hoods supported on console brackets. There are two modern shop fronts at ground level. The building is listed for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
