Description

The White Lion Public House is a historic building located on Crown Street in Wellington, dating from around the 1600s. The structure features a timber frame range on the right side that is oriented at right angles to the road, alongside a 18th-century plastered brick wing on the left. The timber-framed section has a jettied gable adorned with decorative timber framing and a carved bresummer supported by carved figure-head console brackets. It stands two stories high with an attic; the first floor is also jettied but has applied boards over the timber frame, while the ground floor is finished in stuccoed brick. The rear of this section, facing Duke Street, reveals exposed timber framing with closely set studding.

The left-hand wing, built in the 18th century, is made of stuccoed brick and features a tiled roof. It is one story with an attic and has two windows. The first floor includes sash windows with glazing bars, including a tripartite sash on the left. The ground floor has an early 19th-century bowed window on the right, which is also fitted with glazing bars and is framed by pilasters and an entablature with a dentilled cornice. To the left, there is a splayed bow and a pilastered doorcase beneath an entablature. The building is topped with two gabled dormers.
