TINKERS HILL Outbuilding 30 metres north-west of the Malthouse and Malthouse Cottage

GV II

Cowshed, now storage outbuilding. Early C17. Timber-frame on stone rubble plinth, clad in weatherboards and steel sheets, formerly wattle panels. Plain-tile roof. 2 framed bays with small extensions at each end. EXTERIOR: single storey. Front (south-east) with boarded door to right. Rear: (north-west): small window light to left with central section of weatherboarding replaced by steel sheets. INTERIOR: timber-frame largely complete. Frame with wall and sill plates, rails and studs with tension braces and square panels, some with applied wattle panels. Large jowled wall posts supporting trusses with deeply cambered tie beam with twin struts to principals with single trenched-purlin roof and trenched diagonally-set ridge piece. Later rafters and batons. Cobble floor.
