Description

The Church of England Primary School and House dates to 1872. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with ashlar dressings, standing on an ashlar-capped stone rubble plinth, and has plain tiles with an ornamental ridge. The building features main gables with arch-braced apex collars, deep projecting eaves, and two ridge and one eaves stack of ashlar-dressed rubble with moulded ashlar caps. It follows an H-plan, with north and east wings that have been extended, and incorporates a house within the north wing.

The building is single-storey with an attic. The front elevation includes a hall gable on the right with a stepped triple lancet window with a transom and cusped heads, flanked by heraldic crests set in ashlar-quoined recessed tablets, the right-hand tablet displaying the date '1872'. A two-centred arched doorway with foiled and rounded tracery sits above a plain boarded door, centrally located. The left gable has a stone mullion and transom window to the first floor and a mullion window to the ground floor. The north wing is set back and connected by a porch with a two-centred arch covering a plain boarded door. On the right return side, two twin mullion and transom windows with cusped top lights are set under moulded ashlar coped gables that penetrate the eaves. The left return side presents a gable with a stone mullion and transom window at the attic and a mullion window to the ground floor. The rear elevation displays a hall gable-end similar to the front, along with a triple mullion window at the centre. There is a plain boarded door and chamfered ashlar single-light windows. The interior has not been inspected.
