Description

Brook Cottage is a service extension to Brook House, now a private residence, rebuilt in the 19th century from an earlier structure. It features painted brick and stone rubble construction with a plain-tile roof that has serrated fascias and bargeboards. The building includes integral brick stacks at the gable end and eaves, comprising a front range and a rear wing.

The exterior is single-storey with an attic. The front range has a two-window arrangement of mullion and transom windows, each with keyed flat stone lintels, flanking a central doorway. The entrance door is a four-panel design with bolection-moulded panels and a fanlight above, set under a projecting 19th-century metal tent canopy supported by cast-iron columns and brackets. A tiled gable dormer is present, and the left gable end features a 20th-century attic window beneath a brick segmental arch. The rear wing's gable end has a one-over-one sash window in the attic, framed by a projecting architrave, while the rest of the windows are 20th-century casements. The painted brick gable wall displays an applied painted timber-frame.

The interior has not been inspected. Attached railings and a gate enclose the rear garden of Brook House for about 10 meters to the north. These subsidiary features include cast-iron railing posts with five round rails, a cross-braced gate frame with four round rails and a self-catching latch, and circular gate standards topped with rounded caps. Brook Cottage forms a group with Brook House, which it abuts to the north, and is included for its group value.
