Description
The outbuilding and byre located to the north-west of High Meadow Farmhouse is a structure that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and brick, topped with a plain-tile roof. The building features an integral brick gable-end stack and forms a continuous range, consisting of a two-bay outbuilding to the north that connects at an angle to a two-bay byre to the south.
The exterior is single-storey with an attic. The entrance front of the outbuilding faces west and includes a boarded door set in a beaded doorframe, topped with a brick segmental arched lintel, and a small casement window to the left. At the rear, there are two-light casement openings on either side of a boarded door that is offset to the right, all within brick segmental arched openings. A tiled gabled dormer features a two-light casement opening. The gable-end of the byre to the south has a brick segmental arched opening.
Inside, the outbuilding contains a chamfered bridging beam with run-out stops, a brick bread oven, and two king-post trusses with a low-set collar and king-post featuring a stepped foot, along with a tie beam and a double-tenoned purlin roof. The byre includes a chamfered bridging beam with ogee-chamfer stops, an internal truss with door posts interrupting the tie beam, and a single trenched purlin roof.
