Description
This building is a linhay with attached walls and a cart shelter located approximately 80 meters east of Shelvock Farmhouse. It is probably from the late 18th century and has undergone later alterations. The structure features roughly coursed and dressed sandstone rubble on the north side, while the upper level on the south side is made of a weatherboarded timber frame, partially clad in corrugated iron. Originally, the building was open on both levels and has a graded slate roof.
The ground floor serves as shelter sheds, with a continuous hay-loft above. The walls are made of regularly coursed and dressed sandstone, topped with flat coping, forming rectangular enclosures. The loft is now supported by cast-iron pillars with carved wooden pads at the top. The north side has four rectangular openings on the first floor and a plain doorway to the right of center. The south-facing cart shelter at the west end has two bays.
The interior was not accessible during the resurvey in November 1986, but it is reported to have straight tension braces visible in the timber-framed upper storey and a king-post roof spanning 18 bays. Shelvock Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
