Description

The farmbuildings, dating from the early 19th century, are located to the east of Eardiston House. They feature a timber frame with painted brick infill set on a high, regularly coursed and dressed sandstone block plinth, topped with a slate roof that is partly graded and hipped at the north end of the west range. The buildings enclose the north, south, and east sides of a cobbled farmyard, with an additional range positioned at right angles to the road to the north.

The structures are two levels high, with framing consisting of square panels, three and four from the high cill to the wall-plate, supported by long curving tension braces in the south and west ranges. The south range has a queen-strut end truss, while the north range displays more irregular framing. There are two square panels with straight braces in the range that is at right angles to the road. The west range features four eaves hatches, and the south range has one.

The ground floor of the west range includes scattered doorways and windows, including a doorway at the angle with the south range. A vehicle entrance arch is located in the angle between the north and west ranges. The range at right angles to the road has a gabled doorway with a hoist at first-floor level, situated immediately north of the vehicle entrance arch. Cross-shaped air vents are present in the framing panels of the south range and at the south end of the west range.

Inside, the south range and the southern part of the west range are open to the roof, while the remainder has lofts. The northern part of the west range features a king-post roof, and the south range and southern end of the west range have mixed queen-post and king-post trusses. Together, these buildings create a picturesque group with Eardiston House.
