Description

Eardiston House is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with a mid-19th century extension and later alterations. The original core of the house consists of five bays and three storeys, extended to the left in the 19th century by a lower, two-storey range. The original part is constructed of painted brick on a painted sandstone block plinth, while the extension is also brick. Both ranges have slate roofs, with a gabled roof to the rear. The 18th-century section has five windows, with glazing bar sashes. The windows on the second floor are blind and painted to resemble glazing bars, except for one on the first floor at the centre and one on the ground and first floors to the left. The right return has glazing bar sashes on both floors, with a late 19th or early 20th century canted bay with a French window replacing the lower left window. A central recessed entrance has a mid-19th century half-glazed door with panelled reveals, sheltered by a Doric porch with a plain entablature. The east side of the 19th-century addition has glazing bar sashes on each floor, left and right of a prominent flat-roofed brick porch. A round-headed arch provides access to a five-panel door (formerly six-panel) with a semi-circular fanlight, approached by four stone steps. The building has ridge, end, and valley stacks on both ranges. A stone mounting block is attached to the front right corner of the 19th-century range.
