Description
This building is a linhay and adjoining shippon located approximately 20 meters south-west of West Ford Farmhouse, likely dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of cob on rubble footings, with some 20th-century brick patching and a timber frame. The roof is made of corrugated iron, which was originally thatch. The structure is two stories tall and faces the farmyard to the north. The roof features a gabled design that was originally half-hipped on the left side and hipped on the right.
The right end of the building consists of a four-bay linhay, with heavy scantling crossbeams supported by two granite orthostats and one tenoned into an oak post. The posts that support the hayloft carry A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. The roof extends three bays over the shippon, which has a hayloft above it. There is a door on the left side and a central loading bay on the first floor. The first floor is supported by reused late 16th to early 17th century moulded crossbeams with cleaved roll stops. This building is included for its group value.
