Description
The Sankey Memorial, located approximately 15 metres to the east of the chancel of the Church of St John the Baptist, is a chest tomb dating from around 1835. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a chamfered plinth. The tomb has free-standing corner balusters that are flanked by quadrant corners, with recessed panels that have shallow incised borders. The top of the tomb is adorned with a cyma-recta moulded cornice. It commemorates Richard Sankey, who died on April 12, 1835, and Ann Sankey, who died on November 26, 1865.
