Description
The Sandbrook Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 17 metres to the north-east of the chancel of the Church of Saint Mary in Market Drayton. It dates from 1835 and is constructed from grey sandstone ashlar in the Greek Revival sarcophagus style. The tomb features a chamfered plinth and battered end panels adorned with antefixae at the top. The central block has a shallow chamfered top, while the raised side panels display husk festoons underneath. The south panel is inscribed in memory of William Sandbrook, who died on 8 February 1835, and the north panel commemorates Hannah Sandbrook, the "relict" of William Sandbrook, who died on 23 October 1858. Additional inscriptions for other family members are found on the top of the tomb.
