Description
The tombchest of William Sandbach and others, dated 1829, is located 5 meters southeast of the sundial in the churchyard of St Andrew. It is made of buff sandstone and features a mix of Gothic and Late Classical detailing. The tombchest has a moulded plinth and long sides that end in bold consoles adorned with acanthus leaves at the front. The top of the inscribed panels displays Gothic blind arcading. On the north side, it commemorates William Sandbach of Burton, formerly of Granada in the West Indies, inscribed in ornate Gothic script, with the date presented in Roman numerals. The short side features bold urns with swags of drapery set in pointed arched niches.
