Description
Mainstone House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone with sandstone quoins on the left side and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys with deep eaves and integral rendered brick end stacks. It consists of three bays, with mid-to-late 19th century wooden cross windows that have stone flat arches. The second floor retains glazing bar sashes and a central lunette. The entrance features a central half-glazed door with a late 19th century gabled wooden porch. At the rear, there is a kitchen wing with an integral end stack.
Inside, the house boasts a mid-18th century dog-leg staircase that rises the full height of the building, complete with splat balusters, beaded square newel posts, and a moulded handrail. There is an early 18th century door to a cupboard under the stairs that has a ventilated panel with splat balusters and L-hinges. The interior also includes a large open fireplace and chamfered beams, along with boarded and six-panelled doors.
