Description

This commercial building at 13 Castle Gates dates to 1908. It is designed in a mock timber style characteristic of Shrewsbury architecture, featuring a plain tiled roof. The building is three storeys high and has a single window on its front. A late 20th-century shop front has been inserted. Above the ground floor, there is an oriel window with Ipswich glazing and leaded upper panes on the first floor; a mullioned and transomed oriel sits above that. A jettied gable, containing a three-light mullioned window, extends to the attic. The mock timber framing consists of close studding with an arcaded pattern and enriched quatrefoils. Decorative bargeboards, featuring a pendant finial, adorn the gable. The building is listed for its group value.
