Description
This building, located at 23 Leg Street, is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from around 1800, having been re-fronted from an earlier structure that likely dates back to the 16th or 17th century. The exterior is made of stuccoed brick, with a part-rendered brick section at the rear. The slate roof is hidden by a moulded eaves parapet and features a central rendered ridge stack. The building has three storeys and a two-window front, with glazing bar sashes set in moulded stone surrounds on the left and smaller ones on the right. The left side has a late 19th-century shop front that was remodelled in the late 20th century, while the right side has a late 20th-century shop front. At the rear, there is a gabled range that is set at right angles to the main building, featuring a steep roof pitch and an end stack, which probably indicates that it was originally timber framed.
