Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 17th century and was altered and extended in the late 20th century. The building is timber framed with rendered infill and has a machine tile roof. Originally, it had an end baffle-entry plan with three framed bays, which was extended by one bay to the left in the late 20th century. The cottage has one storey and an attic.

The framing features square and rectangular panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate and short straight tension braces. The late 20th-century windows include latticed casements set within the framing, with one window to the left and two to the right of a contemporary gabled porch that has a half-glazed door. Above the casements, there are three gabled eaves dormers. To the far left, there is an infilled segmental-headed doorway. The late 20th-century addition includes one casement and one dormer.

There is a reddish-brown chimney stack located behind the ridge at the junction between the 17th-century part and the 20th-century addition, as well as a similar external end stack to the right. The interior was not accessible during the last survey in March 1986, but it was noted that the timber frame remains largely intact, including the cross-walls, and features chamfered ceiling beams. The prominent late 20th-century additions to the rear are not considered to have special architectural interest.
